No one would argue that as Americans, our daily diets are severely lacking. Look around and seems that every day we are bombarded with new fad diets, weight loss pills and miracle shakes. It goes on and on. After working for several years in a health food store I soon began to realize that the crap that they sell us as consumers for meal replacements are just that CRAP! Our bodies need whole raw unadulterated food in order to live and survive at 100% and I don’t care how fancy or high tech that new shake is processed, its still processed. It doesn’t take a PHD to taste the difference between a fresh carrot versus a canned carrot (have you ever tried baby food?). Fact is the closer our foods are to how mother nature made them, the better they are for us. The following breakfast shake that we have come up with is based on whole green foods no magic shakes, protein powders etc. There is only one ingredient that is not from a raw food source and that is the coconut oil. Contrary to what the media tells you, your body does need some saturated fat in your diet and coconut had been well documented as having the correct ratio of saturated to unsaturated fat including omega 3 fatty acids. We have had amazing results with patients just using this shake for breakfast. We have had weight loss, increased energy, lower cholesterol, lower triglycerides and others. In order to make this shake, we recommend the Vita-Mix brand blender or equivalent.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup water
  • Hand full of almonds (preferably raw)
  • 1/3 cup of pineapple (fresh is better than canned)
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/4 red or gala apple
  • 1/4 orange
  • 1/2 carrot stick (or 4-5 baby carrots)
  • 1 stick of celery
  • 1/2 cucumber
  • Hand full of spinach
  • 1 sprig parsley
  • 1 heaping table spoon of coconut oil or olive oil
  • dash of cinnamon
  • dash of turmeric

Directions:

  • Add water and almonds to blender and process until a milky texture (about 30-40 seconds)
  • Add all other ingredients and blend for 30-40 seconds
  • Drink slowly and chew while drinking ( chewing releases saliva that contains lots of salivary amylase which is the start of digestion)
  • Enjoy 
  • Eat a regular lunch and dinner (remember to try your best to follow the New West Diet for best results) and drink plenty of water
